Painter and draughtswoman. Born in Pune, trained at Sir J.J. School of Art, and working from a small north-lit studio in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai.
Her paintings are slow and layered; her drawings quick and unforgiving. Between the two she has spent twelve years trying to paint the feeling of a particular light — the one that arrives just after the rain.
Aparajita began by drawing her grandmother every afternoon for a summer. That habit — looking at one thing for a long time — is still the centre of her practice.
Today she divides her time between large paintings for collectors and commissions, a daily drawing practice, and teaching small workshops that she calls ‘lessons in looking’.
A short list. The full CV and press kit are available on request.
Every work starts with days of looking and drawing before a brush touches canvas.
Only twelve to fifteen paintings leave the studio each year — each one finished properly.
Workshops share every technique she uses. Nothing is a secret in the studio.
The studio is open on Saturdays from 11 to 5, and by appointment through the week.
Original paintings and drawings are available directly from the studio. Commissions open twice a year.
One short letter a month — new work, open studio days and workshop dates. No noise.
